music ramblings…
Saturday, April 17th, 2004found this link over at kottke’s.. it’s an interesting post about how this dude jeffrey veen “stopped buying cds and started loving music”. i’ve never heard of metacritic, and upon initial glance, it looks like yet another site that i’ll regularly visit (as if i don’t already consume enough media).. i do, however, slightly disagree with his notion that “labels” are unneccessary… i think that there’s definitely a shift happening — not everyone wants to go out and do the real legwork involved in discovering new music. i think the music mavens out there need a good way to publish their latest finds and playlists.. and then the masses will follow.. ok, i’m just rambling here. i’ll think about this some more, but i’m sleepy. ooo, here’s another interesting post about the music industry, triggered by the whole “grey album” thing that happened a few months ago. mash-up is getting huge. i mean, i’m finding that whenever i play a bootleg at one of my gigs, people really gravitate towards the dancefloor since it’s familiar…

Thursday, April 15th, 2004Windows noises, remixed? made entirely in SNDREC32.EXE.. who needs Apple Garage Band anyway?
Interesting… but, if he’s really good, he’ll make a mash-up of David Bowie’s new songs, and win himself a car.

npr piece about the soundtrack academy awards
Thursday, April 15th, 2004so, i heard this piece on NPR about the soundtracks nominated for academy awards like a few months ago, and can’t stop thinking about it for some reason, and today, i bought the soundtracks to both big fish, and cold mountain, as a result..
what was great about this NPR piece was that basically you were sitting with the NPR music critic, Andy Trudeau as he analyzed the music… very engaging.. and as a result, i can’t stop thinking about it (and consequently, bought the cds)..
