Found this over at MeFi… A 20-something-year-old dude (24, to be exact, according to his friendster profile) goes to the Prom with a 17-year old high school girl — all for the sake of journalism. It’s a good read.. Man.. she was just barely born in the Reagan-era. Boy do I feel old.

My favorite bit of the story:
“In their formalwear the girls look much older than they are; they remind me, I can’t help but note, of the maniacally tweezed women who populate the type of bars I stridently avoid. The guys, meanwhile, look even younger and goofier than usual in their tuxes: gawky, a little helpless even, as if they’d raided the closet of some extinct species of older man who roamed the earth in 1987, before mysteriously vanishing.”

So, the US Army just redesigned their combat uniforms, incorporating lots of suggestions given by their soldier in the field (sounds like the addition of body armor presented new design requirements that were addressed with the new uniforms). In any case, I actually really like the way the new uniform looks.. the digitized camouflage looks great, and I love the mandarin collar.. Now I just have to figure out how to get my hands on one…

we just got back from a grand weekend in vegas… good times.

so, i’m waiting at the elevators for everyone to come down, and naturally, i’m drawn to the slot machines nearby.. i pop $20 into a machine, and a janitor dude comes by and tells me that just last week, someone hit the jackpot but only played $1, instead of the $3 max. i take this to heart, and begin playing the max $3 bet.. i lose $18, without winning anything, which leaves $2 in the machine. i think for a sec whether or not to add the $1, decide not to.. and hit the jackpot. whoohoo! the first slot machine i played, and i hit the jackpot granted, had i played a buck more, i woulda won the progressive (which was like $1000), but since i subsequently lost all of the winnings on the craps table (and a rousing game of “all in” casino war), i guess it’s all a wash..

all in all, it was a fun weekend. went wakeboarding on lake mead, clubbing at rain, and buffeting at mandalay.. and of course, that’s not the whole story cuz “what happens in vegas stays in vegas”.

aileen took what must be the best picture ever of jablow in vegas.. he looks quite happy.

donna and ben got married!! and here are the pics… the wedding was in ithaca at cornell, and it was great to be back in the ol’ campus. so much has changed… trees are taller, new buildings have been built.. the wedding was great, and it was great to see everyone again.
