logos…

Thursday, June 30th, 2005

Logo design is one of the hardest design tasks — trying to encapsulate the entire essence of something in one little icon is a tough propositions.. Logo styles definitely do reflect the times in which we’re in, and this article about 2005 logo trends is a fun read..

Although… the new dennis yang dot com logo took my brother like a minute to make, I think..

housing bubble? hubba bubba.

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Dutch tulips, tech stocks, and now housing… it seems like every time there’s a huge run-up, someone’s talking about a bubble… In the past few weeks, the supposed housing bubble has been a hot topic of discussion..

So.. after reading all of this, I’m still not sure what to think — while it’s true that housing prices have, indeed run up dramatically over the past few years, and yes, many of those prices are on the backs of large debt loads (and interest-only loans).. housing is inherently not as volatile as tulip bulbs or stocks — you can’t just dump a home if you get freaked out, right? I mean, you gotta live somewhere, so if there is indeed a housing bubble wouldn’t it deflate slowly instead of pop?

While I’m on the subject of bubbles, remember the bubble gum, Hubba Bubba? That was the gum that didn’t stick to your face after it burst. Man, I wonder if they still play that commercial with the cowboy saturday mornings.. Do they still play cartoons Saturday mornings? Hmmm. Do people still chew bubble gum? Seems like super minty gum like Eclipse is much more popular nowadays.

Whoohooo! We won our first softball game last night! So we’re no longer winless! Man, winning is a lot more fun than losing…

Um, so, I suppose a vital detail that would be that we won by forfeit. The other team didn’t bother to show up.

But, a win is a win, right? Whoohoo! Winners!

rally!

Alan, Sarah Jane, Kane, Shingo, Andy, and I rode in Sunday’s Scooter Rage 19 here in San Francisco… Our little scooter gang is growing into a healthy group now… The ride started out at First Kick Scooters in SOMA, and made its way all through San Francisco — the ride was called the “Three Golf Course” ride, though I counted that we passed five: McLaren Park, Harding Park, Olympic Club, Lincoln Park and the Presidio…. It was a gorgeous day, absolutely perfect for a scooter rally.. All in all, there were about 100 scooters on Sunday.. and no real hassles (although I heard somebody had a crash, so that’s no good)..

I made a scooter movie for you all to watch.. enjoy.

black rock bruisers victory drinking

So.. our flag football team won our game this weekend.. wahoo! The black rock bruisers, after 7 straight losses, emerged victorious in a great game..

Our regular quarterback was missing yesterday, so I got to try my hand at QB’ing. Man, QB’ing is so fun.. I had a great game, with, i think, 3 TD passes, 1 TD run and no interceptions. We varied our offense quite a bit, running the ball, passing, and we ran the fancy halfback option with great success (one of which was a TD).. Ed “Sticky Fingers” Kriete was our masterful offensive coordinator, devising crazy plans that fooled and stumped the defense play after play… Clint “Speedy Legs” Dickson burned his defender quite a few times, and had one (or two, i don’t remember) TD receptions.. Our defense played great, Brian “Party Cow” Walsh and his go-go-gadget arms had three sacks, including one diving tackle that was certain to be shown on SportsCenter tonight.. Dana “MVG” Yobst had the play of the game with a fantastic interception, setting up the Bruisers for a scoring drive to win the game in the final seconds of overtime.

Final score… 32-26..

Too bad it was the last game of the season, but at least we didn’t finish winless! We celebrated our victory at the haight street fair afterwards, dancin’ up a storm at the brass tax party — and then off to Finnegan’s Wake in cole valley for more drinkin’

Whoohoo.. winning is fun! (Hopefully now we can get a win in softball too.. I hate to think that I’m the common denominator in both of my un-undefeated teams)

new dennisyang.com logo

Andy made me a brand new logo for dennisyang.com… Thanks Andy!

When I was a kid I had a little logo for myself that I used all over the place.. it was my initials, “DTY” but the “T” kind of extended up and over the D and the Y like a little umbrella or something.. I must have put that logo on like everything I owned, and lots of stuff I didn’t own. Man, I loved that logo, I’m not sure why I stopped using it.. Handwriting analysts would probably say that the mark didn’t really embody me since it put undue emphasis on my middle initial, which I hardly identify with.. I mean.. this is dennisyang.com not.. dennistyang.com nor dennistedyang.com

Yes, my middle name is Ted. Not Theodore. Just Ted. I used to tell people that my middle name was Tucker, after Preston Tucker, but I suppose I grew out of that too.

the temple at hayes green

As previously reported, David Best (of burningman temple fame) was planning on building a temple in hayes green…

Well, it’s there now… and it’s basically a mini version of the temples that he’s built for burningman, with the intricately cut-out shapes, all nailed together… people have already started to leave bits and pieces of themselves all over the temple.. flowers, messages, change, etc…

it’s great to see a bit of burningman culture right in the middle of the city — audris, andy and i walked over to the temple around sunset yesterday and it was great to see a good sized group of hayes valley folk wandering the green at magic hour…

It’s great to see how nicely Hayes Green is coming together..
