After almost three fun years, the beloved disco limo is for sale. My last project with the limo was to rebuild the carburetor, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.. It seems to be pretty straightforward (i think), and after putting the carb back on today, the limo seemed to run stronger than ever. Wahoo!!
Anyway.. if anyone wants to buy the limo… let me know! I’m a little sad to see it go, but I think it’s time…
it’s no disco limo… but, if the dukes of hazzard had a limo.. this is what it would look like.. this best part is its license plate, which reads “REDNEXXX”. haha.
so phil and i drove the limo down to ventura to work on it… i took monday and tuesday off of work, and it was a very productive weekend. juri flew out from nyc to help, and a bunch of phil’s friends came and pitched in. on the outside, we glued about 4,000 mirror tiles to the outside of the limo using silicone adhesive, mounted the bull horns, and made a new hood ornament… inside, we gutted the whole car down to the metal.. cut off the sun roof with the plasma cutter (and started a little fire in between the car frame and the vinyl top.. oops!) we also ripped out the dashboard and made a new, more compact one… so much progress… but, still lots more work to do… check out the pics.

So Phil and I have decided on a final plan for the limo… we’re covering it in mirror tile, so it will look like a giant disco ball. Andy did a great photoshop rendering of the car for us… (ok, I tried to do one, and it turned out sooo badly)
I ordered the tile yesterday from the super friendly folks at Mosaic Mercantile right here in SF, and we’ll be getting started soon. For the past few months, we’ve been ripping out the interior of the car, getting it running well, and getting it all legal and registered with the DMV. We’ll be decking out the interior in deep red shag and hardwood floors.. here we go.. only 50 days till burningman…

So yah.. phil and I bought a limo. The full story coming soon, I promise — it’s a doozy. As a matter of fact, I think this whole limo situation might be enough to warrant a whole category of posts…
Anyway, thanks to MarkA for this little photoshop’ed gem of a pic to kick off the whole series..
More to come…
