oh yes, it’s christmas mix time again…

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Well… it’s that time of the year again.. the holidays.  Huge shopping lines, christmas trees, and (my favorite) christmas music.  I’m not sure why I love the christmas music so much, but I do.

This is my fifth such holiday mix that I’ve made, and I have yet to repeat a version of a song yet (sure, songs themselves appear every year, but exact versions haven’t been repeated).  2007′s mix is still available as an online podcast if you’re so inclined…

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the mix:

  1. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Coldplay
  2. All That I Want – The Weepies
  3. Baby It’s Cold Outside – The Brian Setzer Orchestra
  4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas – Elvis Presley & Carrie Underwood
  5. Let It Snow / The Last Christmas Medley You’ll Ever Need To Hear – Riders In The Sky
  6. Silent Night – Venus Hum
  7. Angels We Have Heard on High – Christina Aguilera with the La Mass Choir and the Celebrity Voices Choir
  8. Mistletoe – Colbie Cailat
  9. Winter Wonderland – Liz Phair
  10. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas – Gayla Peevey
  11. Frosty The Snowman – Fiona Apple
  12. Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney – Ella Fitzgerald
  13. Carol Of The Bells – The Bird And The Bee
  14. Silver Bells – Kristin Chenoweth
  15. Winter Paradise (I Miss You This Christmas) – Liam and Me
  16. Christmas is Going to the Dogs – Eels
  17. Give Me A Second Chance For Christmas – Mike Vioa And The Candy Butchers
  18. The First Noel – Bright Eyes
  19. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) – The Fray
  20. O Holy Night – UltraJoeBot
  21. Zat You, Santa Claus – Louis Armstrong
  22. Christmas Never Comes – Tralala
  23. Merry Christmas (I Don’t Wanna Fight Tonight) – Ramones
  24. Last Christmas – All About Eve
  25. White Christmas – Chris Isaak
Happy Holidays!!

I’ve been listening to the latest Ben Sollee album, Learning to Bend, all week (the first artist that I’ve been introduced to by the brand new Sirius XMU)… his album is awesome so go check it out if you want..

Anyway, Dj 2nd Nature took his track “A Few Honest Words,” and remixed it with some of President-elect Obama’s speeches.. here’s the video.

Enjoy.

Here’s the mp3 if you want it.

tuesday music video.. “i adore you” by melpo mene

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

This song and its video are so frikkin cute, that I think a herd of bunnies and puppies just appeared in my house just from me posting this.  It’s like a cute convention or something.

Although.. honestly, I don’t really pay attention to lyrics, so I had to check to make sure that like the song and video weren’t just *cute sounding* — although, that would be really quite funny, to make like a *cute sounding* song and video, and have the lyrics actually be like about something really not cute.

Hmm.  Now that I actually read the lyrics, it’s not nearly as cute, lyrically.. it’s kind of sad, since I think it’s more about unrequited love, or love lost…

Yah, great.. now I’m sad.  Or maybe I’m projecting bits of myself onto this song.  Ugh.

And that’s why I don’t pay attention to lyrics.

coney island, by good old war

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It’s Thursday, so that means.. new music! (Ok, I don’t nearly do this enough to warrant saying that, but whatever.) Today’s track comes from a little indie outfit out of Philadelphia, Good Old War.

Have a listen. It’s a catchy lil’ ditty.

monday’s fresh music.. plants & animals..

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Thanks to Aubrey over at daily tuneage, I found some fantastic new music today… She posted Lola Who? by the Plants and Animals, from Montreal…

Not only that.. but she apparently found them through XM channel 52 — I mostly listen to XM 43, so finding a new station is actually a huge boon.. woot!

Anyway.. here’s a little seeqpod playlist for you kids.. Enjoy.

my hot dog floated in the water

Monday, March 31st, 2008

So, Andy just sent me this awesome video, made by my cousins (ok, I think they’re technically like my 2nd cousins once removed, but whatever) Alex and Isis.

Isis was 5 when she composed and sung this song, “my hot dog floated in the water” and it’s just so frikkin’ cute I had to share. Her cousin Alex made the accompanying animation and put it on the YouTubes.

Record it!

ingrid michaelson at slim’s..

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

So, last night, I saw Ingrid Michaelson play a show at Slim’s… She originally was playing at Cafe du Nord, which would have been awesome since it’s such a small venue, but apparently her tickets sold out so quickly that they upgraded her to Slim’s — last night was apparently the biggest show that she’s played to date. Anyway, her show was awesome.. her personality shines throughout the whole show, as she intertwines funny stories with her sweet, sometimes melancholy songs. Excited to visit San Francisco, since she wanted to see the Full House house, she was disappointed when she only ended up visiting the Painted Ladies, which were the houses shown in the opening credits (so close! only 1.1 miles away!)…

She played only 1 encore song — I absolutely LOVE short encores. I find it kind of annoying when bands leave their best songs out of their set, and then play essentially a second set for their encore. Ingrid did a delicately sweet rendition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” as her encore.. so good.

Anyway… if you haven’t seen it, here’s her video for “The Way I Am.” Good stuffs.
